Japan – Day 4
April 18, 2026Saturday 18th: Had an early start to head over to Toyosu, Koto City for the immersive digital art museum – teamLab Planets. Most enjoyable morning, truly challenging of the senses – walking through water in dark corridors with different textures underfoot; a milky water pond room with digital koi exploding into blossom when touched; giant balls; lights; areas for mindfulness, balance and awareness – karate ethos in a building!! Debbie was particularly taken with the hanging orchid garden.
From here, by train, we visited the giant, ultra realistic, anatomical dachshund situated in the Tamburin perfume store lying over 13 metres in length!
Late afternoon found us back at Yonemoto Sensei’s dojo for his special 86th birthday lesson and celebrations. I was so pleased to see my friend Yuki Tsubomoto Sensei, as I had not seen him since 2017. Ishi Sensei also attended, with one of his students, along with Seibukan’s regular students. We had a great informative session, all working together. Culminating in each of us demonstrating a kata of our choice.
Birthday celebrations rounded off the evening, complete with a rendition of Happy Birthday and a slice of cake with candles for Sensei. I have always enjoyed these occasions where everyone is more relaxed and can exchange ideas and discussions. Debbie also found it very interesting and great fun.
