Japan – Day 2
April 16, 2026Thursday 16/4
We set out early morning to Kita Senju a very busy station where we met Pietman Faasen sensei from South Africa. From there we made our way to Tsukiji, the home of the famous fish market in Tokyo. Walking around was an experience, so busy and interesting! Debbie was very surprised about the amount of different kinds of foods – fresh, dried and some still alive and swimming around in small tubs, ready to be eaten.
We then went on Ueno a very popular shopping district for tourists where we had lunch.
We went back to the Seibukan dojo, where we were fortunate to have a private lesson with Yonemoto Sensei before the general class. These classes are very rewarding. Today we studied Shisochin. Sensei was in good spirits. Debbie was deeply touched when he presented her with a bracelet made from black bamboo he had grown himself, to match the one he had given me many years ago.
The general class was attended by senior grades from the Seibukan. – including Harada-san, who I hadn’t seen for many years. The class was very relaxed and informal. At the end of the class, each of Yonemoto Sensei’s students demonstrated a kata. Saifa was demonstrated by Debbie, I chose Seiunchin.
The evening was rounded off with a very friendly party with food and drink provided and we were spoilt by Tamaki Sensei, who cooked a variety of delicious food that he had spent a long time preparing. I was delighted when my very good friend Yazaki-san and also Harada-san’s wife arrived to join the celebration.
